South African entrepreneur Rich Mulholland recently released a new video talking about how he “messed up” his relationship with US music heavyweight will.i.am and I thought it was a very relevant piece of advice for entrepreneurs on a couple of levels.
I have a huge amount of respect for Rich; he doesn’t glamourize entrepreneurship, he is always prepared to try and share some of his insights, support bold entrepreneurs who need a break and I think he is very open about his journey – both successes and failures.
On another level, I think Rich is one of those entrepreneurs who sees himself as part of the world economy, rather than inwardly focused on South Africa – he’s constantly learning about and following trends from around the world. This is a lesson that a lot of us can learn from.
In this video, Rich talks about “pride” getting in the way of building an important connection but I reach a slightly different conclusion (for other entrepreneurs). You have a finite amount of time in your business – typically decided by the amount of capital you require – you will be guaranteed to miss 100% of the shots you don’t take… so if an opportunity presents itself then go for it!
Enjoy the video!
